Capturing the Beal Center and Downtown Hayesville in Bloom
This past spring, I had the privilege of flying my drone high above the historic Beal Center and the heart of downtown Hayesville, North Carolina. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hayesville is one of those towns where history, community, and natural beauty come together seamlessly—and the Beal Center stands as a proud reminder of that heritage.

The Beal Center: A Landmark of History and Charm
The Beal Center in Hayesville, NC, once Clay County’s original courthouse, has been beautifully restored into a vibrant event venue and community hub. Its red brick exterior, tall arched windows, and distinctive clocktower make it a striking focal point of Hayesville’s town square. From the ground it’s impressive, but from the air, you can truly appreciate its symmetry, scale, and the way it anchors the entire downtown.

Springtime in Downtown Hayesville
Flying my drone over Hayesville this spring, the town was alive with fresh green leaves and blooming dogwoods surrounding the Beal Center. The mountain backdrop was hazy blue, framing the town in classic Appalachian beauty. Just a block away, you can spot local shops, restaurants, and small businesses—proof that Hayesville, while small, is full of life and character.
Community Events on the Courthouse Grounds
What makes Hayesville even more special is how the Beal Center and courthouse lawn transform into a gathering place for the community.
Summer Concert Series: On various Friday evenings during the summer, the Clay County Communities Revitalization Association (CCCRA) hosts free outdoor concerts on the courthouse grounds. Visitors and locals alike bring their own chairs and settle in for evenings of live music featuring talented regional bands and musicians. The manicured lawn and small-town setting make for a charming, family-friendly atmosphere.
Festival on the Square: Every July, typically the second weekend, Hayesville comes alive with its largest annual celebration. The Festival on the Square brings together local craft artists, food vendors, children’s activities, and live music—all centered around the courthouse lawn. It’s a lively, colorful event that reflects the welcoming spirit of this mountain town.
If you’re planning a visit, you can find updated schedules and performer lineups on the Clay County Chamber of Commerce or Blue Ridge Music Trails websites.

Why Aerial Photography Brings It to Life
What I love about capturing historic landmarks like the Beal Center with my drone is how it tells a broader story. From above, you see not only the building but also its context—the blooming spring trees, the sidewalks that welcome visitors, and the Blue Ridge Mountains that remind you why people fall in love with this part of Western North Carolina. Drone photography in Hayesville allows us to preserve the feeling of a place, not just the structure itself.

A Piece of Hayesville to Remember
As a real estate and architectural photographer in Western NC, I’m always looking for opportunities to showcase the charm of our region. Whether it’s a historic downtown landmark like the Beal Center, or a private home overlooking Lake Chatuge, capturing Hayesville from new angles allows me to share its story with both locals and those just discovering it.
If you haven’t visited downtown Hayesville, NC in the spring or summer, I highly recommend a walk around the square. Stop by the Beal Center, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant, and if you time it right, experience the Summer Concert Series or the Festival on the Square. It’s small-town mountain living at its very best.
